Last Friday, Mrs. Lee asked if I could take her dog Heizi out for a walk. I said1 because I like dogs. A few minutes later, Heizi and I were walking happily to the park.
We were almost there2 a big black dog suddenly(突然) appeared from out of nowhere. Before we could stay away from it, it attacked Heizi. Then the two dogs3 with each other.
It was just terrible. I was so 4 that I was unable to call for help. 5 , someone showed up just then. A boy about my age pulled the black dog off Heizi. The black dog was 6 . He said he was really, really sorry. He promised that a thing like that wouldn't 7 again.
I was still shaking when I got back to Mrs. Nolan's house. Poor Heizi's body was full of 8 . Mrs. Lee drove Heizi and me right over to the animal hospital.
The animal doctor said Heizi should be fine in a few days, but I still felt sorry for not9 it well. Mrs. Lee said it wasn't my fault(过错), because there was nothing I could do at that time. But her kind 10 didn't make me feel any better.
What a terrible day!
A friend in need is a friend indeed
One day two young men were going through the forest. One said to the other, "We're good friends. We must help each other. If any beast(野兽) comes at you, I'll stay with you and help you. "
The other friend said, "I will help you too, if any beast comes at you. "
They walked on. After a while there was a great noise. It was a big bear. The young men ran away quickly. One of them got up into a tree. But the other was fat and could not climb up. So he threw himself at the foot of the tree. He thought to himself, "The bear will think that I am dead. "
Soon the bear came near. The bear looked at the fat young man, then it put its nose down and smelled him. The young man held his breath. The bear thought he was dead, so it went away.
The man in the tree came down. With a smile he asked his friend, "The bear put its mouth so near to your ear. What did it say to you? "
The friend answered, "The bear said, 'Don't trust your friend. He ran away from you when you needed his help the most. Remember:A friend in need is a friend indeed. ' "
Carol, who is interested in birds, goes everywhere with her camera to take photos of them. She often goes to the forest where there are different birds. She goes there on her bike. She cycles (骑自行车) as much as possible, because she wants to do lots of exercise every day to keep healthy. Carol likes reading books about birds. She often sends her pictures of birds to photography (摄影) competitions. Last year she won first prize in a national competition.
Dimitra loves to be outside all the time. If it's a nice weekend, she will put on her backpack (背包) and travel by bus to the countryside. She loves walking a lot and she also follows rivers for miles and miles. And she loves doing a lot of exercise every day. When it starts to get dark, she tries to find a safe place to sleep in her tent and cook her dinner. She always takes her CD player with her everywhere she goes because she loves music.
A study from a team of South Korean researchers suggests that eating alone often may lead to poor eating habits and poor food choices. And the study found that people who ate alone more than twice a week had a greater risk of developing high blood pressure and heart disease.
For children, eating with their families is not only about stopping bad outcomes(结果)— it is also about developing good ones.
In 2014, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD)looked at data from nearly three—quarters of the world's countries. Among its findings was the fact that students who shared a main meal with their families were less likely(有可能的)to drop out of school. Children who eat a main meal with their families are also less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol(吸毒酗酒).
In the report, titled "The Importance of Family Dinners(VIII)" researchers say that "teens who have frequent(经常的)family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what's going on in their lives". They also say that when teens think they are closer to their parents, they are less likely to use drugs and alcohol.
Another study from the University of Montreal found that children who ate with their families experience long—term health benefits(好处). These children were in better health and drank fewer sugary soft drinks. These children also seemed to have better social skills and they were friendlier.
Long long ago, in the forest there lived a deer (鹿), a bird and a mouse. They were good friends.
One day, a turtle (龟) came to them and said, "I' m all alone. I want to join your group and become your friend. "
"You're most welcome, " they said.
One day, when the four friends were playing, they saw a hunter (猎人) coming. The deer ran away into the forest. The bird flew high in the sky and the mouse ran into a hole. The turtle could not run as fast as the others. The hunter caught it and put it in a bag. Though the hunter was a bit upset that he didn't catch the deer, he thought that it was better to at least have a turtle to eat.
The deer, the mouse and the bird were worried about the turtle. ____
First, the bird flew high up in the sky and saw the hunter walking along the river. Then the deer lay on his way and didn't move at all. It pretended that it was already dead (死的). When the hunter saw the deer again, he was very happy. He put the bag with the turtle on the ground and moved to the deer. As soon as the hunter left, the mouse opened the bag and freed the turtle. But when the hunter reached the deer, it suddenly stood up and ran away.
The hunter could do nothing but turn back to pick up his bag. To his surprise, the bag was open and the turtle wasn't there. He left the forest with nothing.
I and many other people in Britain love charity (慈善) shops because we can find them on every street. The charity shops sell all kinds of things and they are very cheap.
The first charity shop was opened by Oxfam in 1947. Now there are over 7, 000 charity shops in the UK. My favorite charity shop in my hometown is the Red Cross Shop. There I always find children's books, all 10 to 20 pence each. They are really cheap.
Most of the shop workers in charity shops are volunteers, but each shop has a manager and he can get some money. Every morning you see bags of things outside the shops. Some people bring and put them there without waiting for thanks. In fact, over 90% of the things in charity shops are from kind people.
All the money the shops get goes to charity work. Charity shops raise more than 110 million pounds every year. The money is for sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people, and many others. In a charity shop you can get cheap but nice things. You might even feel special while shopping.
If possible, let's do something for charity together.

Nowadays smartphones play an important role in our life and each family has got one or more phones. It is said that students get phones easily at home. That worries parents and teachers a lot. Students often use phones after school or after they their homework. And even worse, some students use them all day and night, and they forget studies. They become crazy about using phones.
As a result, that causes a lot of health problems as well as study problems. Parents often argue with their kids they use their phones too much. Although they tell their kids many times not to play their phones for a long time, it doesn't . At the same time, teachers always ask students not to their phones to school, but they don't listen to their teachers .
So how to get phone usage (使用) control is a big problem. In most students' opinions, it's OK to play for a while after a long—day study so they don't understand their parents and teachers stop them using phones.
What do you think of students using phones?E—mail us at Jerry901@163. com to say out your opinions.
My name is Mike Green. Last night there was an earthquake in our city. It happened at about eight o'clock. My father was reading a newspaper while my mother was washing the dishes in the kitchen. I was watching TV when the TV screen seemed to move and then started to shake. I realized it was an earthquake ten seconds later.
My father told us to keep cool and not to run around. He asked us to drop down to the floor and find cover under a hard table until the shaking stopped. I was so scared that I couldn't say anything. Luckily, the earthquake was not very strong and we were not hurt. And importantly, from this experience, I learned how to save myself in this kind of situation.
