There is an interesting finding! Our DNA can help us1 whether we prefer coffee or tea.
Scientists in Australia studied2 questions. First, how our genes affected our3 ?Second, why we like some tastes more than others? Following the study, scientists understood why some of us prefer coffee4 others like tea more. The reason is simple. People who enjoy bitter tastes are more5 to drink coffee. Scientists noticed that some people were sensitive(敏感的) to the bitter taste of caffeine(咖啡因), so they were more likely to prefer coffee to tea.
Scientists6 the data(数据) from many countries. They also found that genes aren't the only factors affecting people's tastes. Other things like our changing environment, social7 or the effects of taking medicine can also turn us on or off coffee or tea. The researchers said we can learn to like coffee, because our favorite taste is8 not only by genes, but also environmental reasons. Although humans naturally9 bitterness,we can learn to enjoy bitter-tasting food10 the environment.
It's time to put down your phone.
Researchers from a university in California have found that eye damage caused by too much screen time can harm other important organs (器官) and even shorten your life. Professor Pankaj Kapahi and Brian Hodge published their findings. It showed that the real situation is worse than we thought.
"Our study shows that this is a big problem: eye damage may actually lead to problems in other organs," Kapahi said. He and Hodge studied the patterns of fruit flies and found that overexposure (过度接触) to light in the eyes can cause or worsen chronic disease (慢性病). Further research found that fruit flies that were completely in darkness lived longer than those that were not.
Too much time spent in front of a screen can harm your health."To our surprise, we found that the eye itself, at least in the fruit fly, can directly change life," Hodge said. "Looking at computer and phone screens will surely do harm to us. On top of these, being exposed to light pollution late into the night is especially bad for us," Kapahi explained. "It messes up eye protection, damaging the rest of the body and the brain."
These findings are very worrying because screen time has increased fast for many kids because of COVID- 19. Parents reported that although they prevented their kids from playing video games, children's screen time still increased from 0.75 hours to 6.5 hours a day due to online classes.
"We always think of the eye as something that serves us. We don't think of it as something that needs to be protected," Kapahi reminded us.
When we think of art, we probably think of painting a picture on a strong cloth or special paper, even on walls of a city. However, in many cultures, people paint their faces instead.
Is the face painting art?
In fact, the face painting may be the very first form of art. Painting faces are in different colors and patterns. This has been part of people's traditions for thousands of years. The way that people painted their faces can tell stories and lessons from the past.
▲
People still paint their faces for lots of reasons. Patterns on faces connect people to a tribal(部落的) family and can show who is the most important person in the family. For fighters, it is a way to make their enemies afraid.
How is the face painting important in theater?
The face painting was important in Japanese and Chinese ancient ceremonies. It was also used in traditional theater to change the actors' roles. Actors in those countries still wear white, black and red face painting today to show feelings and make the bad people look dramatic(戏剧性的) and awful.
Where does the paint come from?
Tribal people make the paint from the natural colors in plants and earth. Plant parts are used to make different colorings. The ingredients are dried over a fire and then made into powder. It is then mixed with animal fat.
"If I get taller, I can reach the key on the table. And if I get smaller, I can enter the garden. "said Alice. Then she finished a piece of cake.
Soon she grew up to three metres tall. She hurried to the garden door after getting the key. But she was too tall. She cried and found a large pool of salt water around her. Suddenly, she heard a voice.
It was the White Rabbit again. He was hurrying down the room with a pair of gloves and a fan.
"Hi, sir…"Alice's voice frightened the Rabbit. He dropped the gloves and the fan and ran away quickly. Alice picked them up.
She said, "Oh! How strange! Shall I get smaller again?"She felt very low again.
Feeling too hot, Alice cooled down with the fan. Surprisingly, she found herself wearing one glove. "How did I get it?"She thought. "Oh, I'm getting smaller now. How to stop it?""It must be the fan!"SoAlice dropped it quickly.
"Things are getting worse, "thought poor Alice. She turned away from the door and fell into salt water that was the pool of her tears.
Alice swam around and looked for a way out but failed. Then she saw an animal, looking big but only a mouse.
"Shall I speak to it?"thought Alice. "Everything is very strange here, so perhaps it can speak too. "
Then she began, "Oh, Mouse, do you know the way out of this pool?"The mouse looked at her but said nothing.
"Perhaps it's a French mouse. "Remembering the first sentence in her French book, she said, "Where's my cat?"Then the mouse jumped out of the water angrily.

After a while, it began to snow (heavy). The little boy came out again and reminded Yang Mr. Cheng might spend the whole afternoon meditating. The snow was more than foot deep, but Yang stood still, without moving his feet. "Young man, why are you so silly? You could have come again someday!"Cheng took Yang to the room at once.
Cheng was very moved and accepted Yang his student because of Yang's politeness and efforts. He told Yang all his philosophical thoughts. That made a big difference to Yang's life. Later, Yang really learned a lot and made great contributions to his country.
