Are you one of those students who are just good at math? If you are, you should highly consider joining your school's math 1 and competitions.
But, why? Why should you "waste your afternoons with math?" It's because you'll gain so much 2 this. You'll get to experience some amazing things that many of your classmates will not get to. Even though they may seem or look 3 , it's not all that bad.
Math club gives me precious memories.
Some of my most favorite memories of the days back in middle school were through math club-Math Counts-and competitions. I 4 being so excited to stay at the hotel with my friends, unable to sleep that first night because of the nervousness of competing the morning after.
5 makes perfect.
I learned this simple idea through all those Friday afternoons spent with my Math Counts team, practicing for two hours 6 . With the same goals in our minds-go to state and qualify for nationals-we practiced hard. And even after the practice, some students stayed around trying to work out the problems.
Having a good time with my friends.
Even though we were those "nerdy" kids who were simply good at math, we were just like all 7 middle school kids when it came to having fun. We took breaks together going to the school vending machine to buy a bag of chips and 8 around in the hallway. I remember the morning of the competition, we had a snowball fight (even though we weren't supposed to), and a snowball knocked my glasses 9 my face. Because of the heavy snow, it took 5 minutes for 10 kids to find the pair of glasses.
Skills for future.
So, why join math clubs? By doing so, you will gain confidence, learn from your mistakes, and know what it feels like to be pressured. 10 , I've never had trouble in any of my math classes in high school because I gained the ability to learn and digest the new math skills very quickly.
I am a student in a junior high school. I always go to school by subway. On the subway I meet many people. Some young women like to watch TV shows on their phones. Some young men often listen to music. Parents usually look after their kids. Students usually talk with each other. Many people play with their phones, but some just sit or stand there, thinking about something.
If you are in Britain (英国), you can find some books on the subway. This is a kind of activity and people call it "Books on the Subway". People put some of their favorite books on the subway. And they can also borrow books from other people on the subway. You can find new books on the subway every day. This kind of activity car help people love reading. It's really a good idea.
Subway is a way home, a way to work, a good place for thinking. How often do you take the subway? On the subway, what do you usually do? Can you tell me?
People in Los Angeles love cars very much. The city is very big, and its public transportation (公共交通) is slow. So people drive everywhere. But now, a lot of people who like riding are trying to get people out of their cars but on bikes.
Devon says he has to be careful when he rides his bike on the streets. "A lot of people drive very fast, and it's very difficult to be careful. " Although riding a bike to work can be dangerous, he likes to ride his bike to work. "It's much better than driving a car. For example, I don't have to think about where to park the car. "
Roger drives to work. "You always have to look at the both sides because someone would rush (冲) across by bike. Or you can easily get into an accident. "
If some people live and work near each other, they can ride to work together to make the bike ride relaxing. They call a "bike train". Anna helps make the group—L. A. Bike Trains. "You're in a big group. If you're afraid of riding alone, you can now ride with other people. " Anna says that people would feel safer (更安全的) by riding together in a group.
A school bus is one that is used to take children to and from school.
In the US, about 450, 000 school buses take more than 25 million children to and from school. The yellow school bus is a US symbol (象征). Yellow became the color of school buses in the US in 1939. Dr. Frank got the good idea. He said it was easy for people to see yellow buses and the black letters on them in the early morning or late afternoon. That would make children safer.
There are not many school buses in Britain, and they are not yellow. They have trackers (追踪器) on them, so kids are being tracked while they travel to and from school by bus. The trackers let parents know where the school bus is and whether their kids are on the bus.
Kindergarten (幼儿园) is a difficult time for some kids. It's the first time for them to go away from their parents. ▲ , Japanese kindergartens and schools have colorful buses. The buses can easily make children want to take them-and then, go to school. Even some parents want to take them, too!
School buses are becoming more and more popular in China now. It saves a lot of time for students to take a school bus.
I had a summer camp with my classmates last year. Early in the morning, we gathered at the bus station. After saying goodbye to our parents, we got on the buses.
It took us more than two hours to arrive at the camp ground. We got off the buses cheerfully. Laughing and shouting, we jumped and ran all over the place. It was the first time for us to be away from the parents. Some of us started to feel homesick. However, when the night party and dances began, the homesickness was gone.
The next day, everybody rushed to the boating class, hoping to be at the head of the others. At first, my friends and I worked hard, but the boat wouldn't listen to us and kept going round and round. Then the teacher taught us how to work together. After many tries, we did much better.
Swimming class was my favourite. It was about the hottest time of a day and the best time to stay in the cool water. The swimming teacher was a funny man, and during the class he often made us laugh happily.
During the week I learned a lot of new things and made many new friends. I also learned how to take care of myself.
Resolutions are (promise) to ourselves. They may help us to become a better person. I'm Tony, a middle student from America. To be a better person, I am going to make four (resolution) for the coming year. The first resolution is about my ( person) improvement. I am going to take up a new hobby. I think playing the piano is a great activity. It will make me become popular. The second resolution has to do improving my relationship with my parents and friends. I plan ( help) them with housework and help my friends with their English. The third resolution is about improving my physical ( healthy). I'm going to exercise more and eat (little) junk food. I (exercise) at least five times a week. It can make me strong. The last one is about how to do better at school. I am going to study hard to get good (grade). As the saying goes "no pain, no gain". I will try my best (make) my resolutions come true.
