Baleen whales, the largest animals on the earth eat much food and they poo (排便) a lot more, too. The 1 findings could provide a better understanding of how to protect 2 , because poo from baleen whales is important food for some sea life.
The whales' favorite food is krill (磷虾). Working out how much a whale eats is 3 because it swims in the deep part of the ocean.
Matthew Savoca, a scientist said, "This is an important question, 4 thought we found it out many years ago, but no one had answered it." The research team followed 321 baleen whales with machines, and watched them feed 5 . The 6 showed the baleen whales eat about 18,000 kg a day, far more than the scientists expected.
This is important for both whales and oceans. The Krill has more iron (铁) than whales' bodies can use, so they poo much of the iron out. This iron helps to 7 phytoplankton (浮游植物), which are the krill's favorite food. Because of people's killing, the number of whales 8 in the 20th century, so there was less iron-rich poo. This explains why krill became less and less—9 there were fewer whales eating them.
The scientists say that when the number of whales recovers (恢复), the poo could cause 10 phytoplankton, and phytoplankton are good for environment.
I still remember what I did when an accident happened last month.
It was about 12:00 at midnight. I saw bright light in my neighbor's kitchen. I thought he might be having midnight food so I went back to my bed. Soon, there was a burning smell and I realized there must be something wrong. I jumped out of the bed at once and went outside to have a look. I saw fire coming out of my neighbor's kitchen. I shouted, "Fire! Fire!" But nobody heard me. I ran quickly to my house and called the fire station and went back to my neighbor's house.
I knocked at the door and called my neighbor's name, but there was no answer. I tried to get into the house and saved his cat and dog. Then I poured water through the kitchen window but it was no use, because the fire was too big. Luckily, the firemen arrived and put out the fire in time.
When my neighbor came back, he was sad because his kitchen was burnt down, but he thanked me for calling the fire station and saving his pets.
A week later, my neighbor invited me to his home for dinner. In his new kitchen, he took a photo of me. Later on. he gave me the photo as a gift. It made me happy.

Long long ago, there was a boy called Jack. He was never happy with anything, and he was always angry. One day, a cloud started dropping heavy black rain on him. That was the cloud's favorite trick (恶作剧) to play on little kids with bad temper.
Jack had a friend, a happy girl called Lucy. She was the only one who would like to hang around with Jack during all those black, rainy days. All the other children ran away, because they didn't want to be black.

Lucy took Jack to the swimming pool, and left him there until all the pool water was black. Then she went and got other kids. They came and played hide and seek (捉迷藏) in the pool. Jack had to say it was a lot of fun.
For the first time ever, Jack started to see the good side of things, even things which seemed so bad at first. The cloud thought that his work was over. But, before leaving, he gave Jack two days of colorful rain. With the rain, children invented the most fun games ever.

Every week, a group of students from Cherry Creek High School come to help old people with anything technology-related (相关的) at an old people's home. The volunteers are from a group called Generation Technology, it was set up by students a few years ago.
When the holidays come, the group helps the old keep connected (保持联系) with loved ones. "A lot of people don't live close to their family, and it's a really important thing. So being able to set up video communication and bring people closer during the holidays is meaningful," said Sunker, the leader of the group.
The students also give the old advice for preventing scams (预防诈骗). People often get strange calls that they don't recognize (识别) and the students can give them some useful advice. It's something the old like Sandy Washington are thankful for. "I have difficulty using modern technology. I do," Sandy Washington said. "And I think a lot of other old people here do too, you know, at our age."
Whether the students are helping with video communication or teaching them about new apps on their phones, it's also helping form strong intergenerational (代与代之间的). connections. For Sandy Washington, seeing the students every week is something she looks forward to. "We really welcome these kids," she said. "I want to hear about their college interests and where they plan to go to college. I feel they're family, just like my own kids or grandkids. It's very nice."
