Born to be Free
Orca whales(虎鲸) live in the sea. This is their home. In the sea, they can swim where they want to. There is no fence (栅栏) to keep them in one place. The orca whales are free.
In the sea, orca whales don't attack (攻击) people. When they are taken away from their home, it can be different. An orca is sometimes called a killer whale.
People caught orca whales and put them in pools. They trained them to do tricks. Sometimes the tricks went wrong. They attacked their trainers. Some trainers have died.
Now, some people say orca whales should not be taken away from their home in the sea. They are wild animals. In the sea they live with others. They can live a long time. However, they don't live as long out of their home.
The first orca that was caught only lived for a day. It just swam around and around in the pool. It was afraid and got much angrier little by little. It kept banging (撞击) into sides.

Dear Sir or Madam,
One of the teachers at my school in New York tells me that your school has summer courses. I am planning to go to Beijing next summer and would like to take a short one-month course(课程) .
I am 18 years old and have been studying Chinese for six years. I was born in the USA and have never been to China before. I am going to study Chinese at the university. I think the course will help me improve my Chinese.
Could you send me a catalogue(目录) and application form(申请表)? I would also like information about Beijing and other places nearby. I hope to do some travelling when the course is over.
Thank you! I am looking forward to your reply.
Very truly yours,
Jim Green
I used to be a shy girl. To make me more outgoing, my mother told me to develop some hobbies. She thought it could make me relaxed. I finally agreed with her and had a try. I found I was interested in collecting (收集) leaves of beautiful shapes and colors, so I talked with my mum about it. "Collecting leaves needs to be done outside so you can also enjoy the fresh air. Believe me. It will make your free time more colorful." my mother said. She also gave me a nice notebook to save the leaves.
There was a park near my home. It was a good place to get leaves. One day, my grandmother went there with me together. We walked slowly around the park and picked up many leaves. After that, she went there with me another several times. "At first, I just wanted to be with you so that you wouldn't feel lonely. However, I have fallen in love with the activity now." After hearing her words, I understood something.
Everyone needs to develop a hobby just for himself or herself to live happily.
a.The writer was a little shy.
b.The writer decided to develop a hobby.
c.The writer understood something about hobbies.
d.The writer went to the park to collect leaves with her grandma.

But the two frogs didn't listen and kept jumping. Several hours later, they were quite tired. Finally, one of the frogs decided to give up. The other frog continued to jump, though he was tired.
The others kept shouting that the effort(努力) wasn't useful. However, the frog jumped hard er and harder and finally, he jumped so high that he got out of the hole. The other frogs cheered him and then asked how he made it.
