Only mother's love is true love. It gives everyone everything all the life. When you are still a baby, mother good care of you as much as possible. When you are growing up day by day, she feels very happy. When you are old to go to school, mother still looks after you all the time. On cold winter days, she always tells you to put on more clothes. She always stands in the wind waiting for youfrom school every day. When you hurry to leave home for school with little breakfast, she always feelsabout you at home. She usually knows about your study and spends much money on your school things. When you do well school, you will see the brightest on her face. Mother can do everything for you day after day.
Mother is always to give everything. She has to give her children, not to receive. What true love that is in the! We will remember mother's love forever!
We didn't have a tree. My dad had as much pride as anybody, I suppose, so he wouldn't just say that we couldn't afford one. When I mentioned it, my mother said that we weren't going to have one this year, that we couldn't afford one, and even if we could—it was stupid to mess up your house with a dead tree.
About three days before Christmas, I was out collecting for my paper route. It was fairly late—long after dark—it was snowing and very cold. I went to the apartment building to try to catch a customer who hadn't paid me for nearly two months— she owed me seven dollars. Much to my surprise, she was home. She invited me in and not only did she pay me, she also gave me a dollar tip.
On the way home, I walked past a Christmas tree shop and the idea hit me. The selection wasn't very good because it was so close to the holiday, but there was this one real nice tree. It had been a very expensive tree and no one had bought it; now it was so close to Christmas that the man was afraid no one would.
He wanted ten dollars for it, but when I told him what I had, he said he might sell it for that. I really didn't want to spend the whole money on the tree, but it was so pretty that I finally agreed. I dragged it all the way home— about a mile, I think— and I tried hard not to damage it. I arrived at home at last. My heart was bursting as I announced that I had a surprise.
"Where did you get that tree?" my mother exclaimed. But it wasn't the kind of exclamation that indicates pleasure. After she knew the truth, she said that I was going to end up in the poorhouse because I believe in stupid things like Christmas trees. My mother had never talked to me like that before and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
When I was 5 years old, I went to the USA with my mom. I can still remember the first Halloween holiday I had in the USA.
On the morning of Halloween, we paid a visit to a pumpkin farm. Each of us brought a pumpkin to school with us. I used the pumpkin to make a lantern which had two triangle eyes and a scary mouth.
In the afternoon,we put on the Halloween costumes and went on parade(庆典) in school. Some of the costumes were nice, but some of them looked scary, I chose to wear a suit of Superman's clothes.
I did a lot of things that day, but my favorite part was "trick or real" in the evening. After dinner, I went outside with an empty bag. I hoped to get a lot of candies from people. At first, I was a bit nervous, so when I knocked at the door, my heart was beating very fast. A lady came out, and I said carefully to her, "trick or treat." My voice was very low, and even myself could hardly hear it. To my surprise, the lady was so kind to give me two candy bars, and I was so excited, thanked the lady and moved on. I couldn't remember how many houses I visited, but I could remember how many candies I got —I got 91 candies that day,and I was so proud of myself.
What a happy Halloween I had! And I wish we could have an Halloween every month!
More than 100 people have now died from the new coronavirus (冠状病毒)-COVID-19. The number of people infected in mainland China increased sharply in one day-from 2, 700 Monday to more than 4,500 Tuesday. The increase comes even as China takes strong measures to stop the spread of the disease.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause disease in mammals (哺乳动物) and birds. Coronaviruses can cause illnesses from the common cold to much more serious illnesses like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Experts still do not have a clear picture of the severity of the new coronavirus.
Officials are calling the disease a "novel" or new coronavirus because it has not been found before in humans. The new virus is thought to have spread to humans from wild animals sold at a market in Wuhan, in central China's Hubei Province. But it is now spreading between people. Chinese officials say the disease is able to spread from one person to another even before any actual signs appear. This makes it especially hard to stop.
Signs of the disease among infected patients have included fever, cough, shortness of breath and general breathing difficulties. In more serious cases, the virus can cause pneumonia(肺炎). Some people report few or no signs, while others have gotten very sick or even died. Experts say that signs of the virus may appear between two and fourteen days after being near someone who is infected.
There is no special treatment for the new coronavirus. However, many of its effects are treatable, as long as a patient is in fair health. Because the virus is so new among humans, there is no available vaccine (疫苗) to protect against the disease. But the World Health Organization advises people to avoid close contact with anyone showing signs of a breathing sickness, such as coughing or sneezing. It also says people should wash their hands often and use safe food practices.

B. The words about plants and animals are used in good or bad ways in different cultures.

D. However, westerners love cats very much.
E. But in Western countries, dogs are considered to be honest and good friends of humans.
F. The rose is regarded as a symbol of love in both China and some Western countries.
As we know, there are differences between Western culture and Chinese culture. . Let's look at some words about animals and plants.
Most expressions in Chinese about the dog, for example, "a homeless dog","a mad dog", "a running dog" and "a dog catching a mouse", have bad meanings. .In English, people use the dog to describe good actions. For example, "you are a lucky dog"means you are a lucky person. And "every dog has its day" means each person has good luck sometimes. To describe a person's serious illness, they say "sick as a dog". The word "dogtired" means very tired.
.But in Western culture,"cat" is often used to describe a woman who is unkind. There are many other examples of how "cat" is used differently as well.
.People think the rose stands for love, peace, courage and friendship. And the rose is the national flower of England, America and many other countries.
.We can learn about many differences in cultures by comparing how some words are used.
The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. All people living away from home go back, becoming the busiest time for transportation systems of about half a month from the Spring Festival. Airports, railway stations and long-distance bus stations are crowded with home returnees(返回者).
The Spring Festival fells on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month, often one month later than the Gregorian(阳历)calendar. It started in the Shang Dynasty ( 1600 BC - 1100 BC) from the people's respect for gods and ancestors (祖先)at the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one.
Strictly speaking, the Spring Festival starts ever)- year in the early days of the 12th lunar month and will last till the middle 1st lunar month of the next year. Of them, the most important days are Spring Festival Eve and the first three days. The Chinese government now promises people to have seven days off for the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Recently, the epidemic (疫情) abroad has been serious. The epidemic is not only a test of the governments, but also a test of human nature.
An American man opened a "free kitchen" in his yard to share his food and water. “As long as you need them, you can take them away for free." At first, the Uncle was very worried. "I think someone is going to take them all away, or destroy it, and this free kitchen1 won't last very long." But the reality made the Uncle moved. The kitchen didn't get smaller, but bigger and bigger. People just took what they needed and shared more of what they had in their homes. There was food, books, "valuable" toilet paper and so on. Some people directly gave money to buy table sets and tents for the Uncle to put things on. Everyone was spontaneous (自发的), and kindness spread warmth in the face of the cold epidemic. With more and more things, the Uncle could not help himself: "Sincerely, I'm confident of human nature." Now the Uncle is sharing the extra food with the homeless people on the street. Internet friends know the Uncle's kindness, also have thumbs up! "That's so sweet!" "This is what I want to see, what makes people human." "Thank you, this is wonderful." they said.
Where there is little to loot (争抢), there is much to divide.
