A British boy has become one of the youngest people to sail alone across the Atlantic Ocean. SebClover has a fantastic and exciting hobby-sailing. He sailed his 9.8-metre-long boat 5,000 km from Tenerife to Antigua.
Fifteen-year-old Seb said, "Sometimes I was afraid. But I still enjoyed every moment. The best thing was seeing fish and other sea animals swimming close to the boat." He was also very happy to arrive in Antigua.

It is said that the eyes are the windows to our soul. However, to have healthy eyes, you have to look after them properly. Your eyes need everyday attention.
First, you have to pay more attention to your diet. Eat more fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, eggs and milk. It's good for your eyes. Also, a regular amount of vitamins A and B2 should also be taken.
Second, you must have regular and sound sleep. This relaxes the eye muscles(肌肉)and gives them the rest they need. Sleep can help the body repair its tired tissue(组织). You should sleep for at least seven to eight hours every day.
Loss of sleep can give you dark circles under your eyes. Next, it's necessary for you to exercise your eyes every day. Blink your eyes at regular periods to keep your eyes moist(湿润的).
Last, you should treat your eyes correctly. For example, if you get something in your eye, don't start rubbing(揉)it. Rubbing is harmful to your eyes. Don't read or write in poor or bright sunlight because sunlight can cause eye tiredness. Remember to wear sunglasses to stop the sun from shining directly in your eyes. Too much reading, writing, watching television or working on a computer can also cause eye tiredness, so rest is required.

I like smoking and I smoke a lot. Two weeks ago, I started having problems breathing and I had a pain in my chest (胸膛). I am very worried. What can I do? I hardly ever exercise. I catch a cold easily. When I catch a cold, I usually have a fever and a headache. It bothers (困扰) me a lot. I am a music teacher in a middle school. I have lessons from Monday to Friday. I often have a sore throat and sometimes I can't eat anything. What should I do? I played computer games all day yesterday. When I woke up this morning, there was a pain in my neck and I can't even move it now. I fell down and hurt my left knee when playing basketball with my friends just now. It keeps bleeding now. What should I do? |
A. Eating too much chocolate is bad for your teeth. After meals and before bedtime, you need to brush your teeth. If you still have a toothache, you must go to the dentist. B. Firstly, you should stay away from your computer. Playing computer games too much is bad for your body. Secondly, try massaging (按摩)your neck to help to relax it. I believe you will feel better soon. C. Take some medicine and drink much hot water to help stop the fever and headache when you get a cold. Also, you need to do exercise every day to make your body stronger so that you won't get a cold easily. D. Why don't you lie down and have a good rest? Also, you could close your eyes or look at some green plants to rest them after watching the screen for long. But if your eyes still hurt, then go to the hospital. E. Don't worry. Let me tell you how to deal with it. You should run the cut under water first. And then put some medicine and a bandage on it. F. I think you should go to the hospital and take a chest X-ray first, and then follow what the doctor asks you to do. The most importantly, I think you should give up smoking. G. Why not drink some hot tea with honey as soon as possible? It works very well. If your throat still hurts, then I think it's necessary for you to see a doctor. |
Teenagers are the most dangerous drivers on the road. Teaching them to drive carefully is very important in helping them become safe drivers. Cellphones and friends can very often lead to accidents, but there are other factors(因素) affecting teenage drivers, like lack of (缺少) sleep, drunk driving and not wearing seatbelts(安全带).Parents can set rules to help children stay safe on the road.
★Encourage teenagers to avoid speeding. It is the most important rule to educate them. Driving too fast is very common among teenagers and is perhaps the easiest way to break traffic laws. Teenagers should be required to avoid speeding and not to ride in a car with anyone else who speeds.
★Ask teenagers to always wear a seatbelt. Whether a teenager is driving or not, he or she needs to be asked to always wear a seatbelt. If the teenager is old enough to have passengers, ask passengers to wear seatbelts, too.
★Always set limits (限制) on the number of passengers. You and your teenager must agree on a set number of teenagers as passengers, but the number of passengers should not be larger than the number of seatbelts in the car.
★Set a fixed time for your teenager to be home. There should be a clear time when the teenager needs to be home. Then they will be more careful when they are in the car.

More than 60 per cent of children and teens do not get enough sleep, which can put their health at risk, according to a report by the Chinese Sleep Research Society.
Nearly 63 per cent of Chinese youths ages 6 to 17 sleep less than eight hours a day, according to the report. Among 13 to 17-year-olds the number is more than 81 per cent. The report was based on a survey at the end of last year and in January. It covered nearly 70, 000 children and teens ages 6 to 17 all over China.
The report found that two top causes influenced students' sleep. From Monday to Thursday, 64 per cent of the group would still be busy with their homework after 11 p.m.. More than 41 per cent of children and teenagers who sleep too little use computers and mobile phones.
The survey also showed that good sleep makes study effective(有效的). Some students who sleep longer generally finish homework in two to three hours. Some other students may require four to six hours because they sleep less. Zhao Zhongxin, a professor studying sleep disorders, said, "Sleep helps growth, protects the brain and makes the immune system(免疫系统) better. Long-term loss of sleep will bring risks of disease and cause lasting health damage."
Some specialists suggested that local education authorities all over China take action to help students get more sleep, including putting off the start of morning classes by half an hour.

Of them, the most important days are Spring Festival Eve and the first three days. The Chinese government now promises people to have seven days off for the Chinese Lunar New Year.

MSF, an organization which sent trained doctors all over the world to help people who have suffered from disasters (遭受灾难)since 1971. At the moment, more than 27,000 trained doctors have taken part in MSF. The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. They need to be ready to go almost anywhere in the world and, of course, they should face difficulties. Most of MSF's work is in Africa.
