Cameron Bloom, his wife Linda and their three daughters were a happy family. They were enjoying their holiday in Thailand when a terrible accident happened. Linda was badly hurt, and the doctor told her she would never walk again. Linda's world was full of sadness and she felt depressed.
Linda's family members did everything to cheer her up, but it was clear that they failed. Until one day, an injured young bird came into their lives. They named the bird Penguin Bloom and the bird became a member of the family.
Penguin and Linda soon became close friends and one was always looking after the other. When Penguin was weak and sick, Linda would lovingly nurse her back to health. And when Linda found it difficult to move, Penguin would sing loudly to cheer her on.
As little Penguin got better and grew into a strong and beautiful bird, Linda found joy and energy of her own. A year after her accident, she took up kayak (皮艇) racing. Another year on, she became one of the Australia's leading Para-athletes.
Linda got through it, thanks to her family, exercise, and the friendship with the little bird. Penguin was saved by the Blooms at first, and it saved them in ways they could not have imagined in return.

b. Linda's family failed to cheer her up.

With the development of economics (经济), the problem of left-behind children (留守儿童) has become a serious social problem. More and more people have realized we should do something to help them.
One of the biggest problems is that the children are all hungry for the love from their parents. Many of them can just get a call or a letter from their parents half a year, a year or even several years, which makes some children lost their parents' faces. When they meet their own troubles, they have no one to talk with. Nobody gives them enough care.
Because of being too far away from their parents, the left-behind children's study is the second biggest problem. From a survey (调查) about their study, only two percent of the children get good results, while ten percent of them are common and eighty-eight percent of them are poor. What a pity!
There are also many other problems of the left-behind children, such as having no ability to protect themselves, unhealthy lifestyles, spending too much pocket money and being crazy about Internet and so on.
In a word, to solve all the problems of the left-behind children needs the government, families and schools to try their best together.
March 25 is called the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and Middle School Students(NDESEMSS全国中小学生安全教育日). The theme of the day this year is to give students more knowledge about safety and make sure that their lives are safe.

Earthquakes are common natural disasters (灾害). When you feel the ground shake, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoors, don't stay near buildings, trees or power lines.
When there's a fire, follow the teachers' instructions, leave the classroom quickly and use a piece of wet cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don't breathe in smoke.

I used to hate being called upon in class mainly because I didn't like my classmates to pay attention to me. I always1to sit at the back of the classroom.
All this 2 after I joined a sports team. It began when a teacher suggested I should 3 for the basketball team. At first I thought it was a crazy idea because I didn't have a good sense of balance. I didn't know how to 4the others on the team and they would laugh at me. 5 the teacher kept cheering me for it. I decided to give a try.
Getting up the courage to go to the tryouts was only the half of it! When I first started attending the practice classes, I didn't 6 know the rules of the game. I really felt 7when I took a shot at the wrong direction. 8, I wasn't the only one"new" at the game, so I decided to do my best at each practice class, and not be too 9 on myself for the things I didn't know yet.
I practiced and practiced. Soon I knew the 10 and the"moves". Being part of a team was fun and exciting. Very soon the 11 part in me was winning over my lack of confidence. 12 time went by, I learned how to play and made friends -friends who respected my efforts to work hard and be a team player. I never had so much fun!
My self-confidence was built up, and with it comes more praise from teachers and classmates. I have gone 13 hiding in the back of the classroom and not wanting to call attention to myself, to raising my 14—even when I sometimes wasn't and not 100% sure I had the right answer. Now I have more self-confidence in 15.

Dear friends,
I don't feel well these days. I get lots of headaches and don't sleep well at night. My parents give me too much pressure! They send me to all kinds of after-school classes to learn English, music, physics and math. I don't have enough free time to do activities I enjoy! Also, I keep worrying about getting better grades than my classmates. I'm too tired. I really don't know what to do. Could you please give me some advice?
