Turn on the tap and the water comes out. Getting water is1easy that you may think that there is an endless supply(供应量)of it. But it is not true. 70% of the earth is2by water, but most of the water is salt water, leaving only a small percent of fresh drinking water. Some countries including Italy, Spain and South Africa even buy water from other countries.
Each person in the UK uses about 150 liters(公升) of water a day. However, 3of the people in some countries even uses 5-10 liters of water a day. We should help save water. Let's have a look at4 you can help:
Don't leave the water5while brushing teeth. We brush our teeth twice a day and by6the tap when we brush, we can save 5-10 liters of water.
Don't use the toilet 7a wastebasket(废纸篓). Every time you flush(冲)used paper, waste food or other small bits of rubbish, more water8.
Make use of brain. Collect rainwater in water buckets(桶) in your garden and use it to9your plants.
Reuse. Share bathwater with your family to reduce costs and water use. Or, 10yourself to cut down your shower time by 1 or 2 minutes.

Edward got up early on the New Year morning. He ran into the street to say "Happy New Year" to people he might meet. When he came back, his father gave him two bright, new silver dollars. He had wished for a long time to buy some pretty books that he had seen at the bookstore.
He left the house with happiness, expecting to buy the books. As he ran down the street , he saw a poor family.
"I wish you a happy New Year, "said Edward, as he was happily walking on. The man shook his head.
"You are not from this country?" ask Edward. The man shook his head, for he couldn't understand or speak Edward's language. But he pointed to his mouth, and to the children shaking with cold, as if to say, "these little kids have had nothing to eat for a long time. "Edward quickly understood that these poor people were in need. He took out his dollars, and gave one to the man and the other to his wife.
They were excited and said something in their language, which meant, "We thank you so much that we will remember you all the time. " When Edward came home, his father asked about the books he had bought.
"I haven't bought books, " said Edward. "I gave some money to some poor people. " He went on, "I think I can wait for my books till next New Year. "
"My dear boy, " said his father, "here are some books for you. I saw you give the money cheerfully to the poor German family. It was nice of a little boy to do so. Be always ready to help others and every year will be a Happy New Year. "
You may have heard the saying "The Yangtze River is China's mother river. " It is almost 6, 600 kilometers long. As the world's third longest river, it covers one-fifth of China's land area. The Yangtze River Economic(长江经济带) covers eleven provinces and cities, making up about forty percent of China's total population and GDP.
On December 26th, 2020, China passed the Yangtze River Protection Law, which could work on March 1st, 2021. It is the first law to protect a waterway in China.
The mother river is in great need of protection because something is wrong with it. For example, because of overfishing and water pollution, some fishes in the river have died out there. There's also desert-field and soil pollution near the river.
According to the law, fishing will not be allowed in all of the Yangtze's natural waterways, including its tributaries(支流)and lakes. Those who are caught fishing will be fined(罚款)50, 000 to 500, 000yuan.
Digging sand will be strictly controlled in the river. Many companies are digging sand along the river. However, this had led to lower water levels on the river, which has caused the river's water to decline.
Companies and factories along the river will need to work on green development. If their activities do harm to the waterways, they will be moved away, the law says.
A mind map(思维导图) is a tool that connects information with a central subject. A student said, "I thought making a mind would take a lot of time but in fact it saves much time. "
How to make a mind map? Now follow these rules for making wonderful mind maps.
Why? Because starting in the center lets your brain spread out in all directions and express itself more freely and naturally.
Use a picture for your central idea. Why? Because a picture is worth a thousand words and helps you use your imagination. It helps get your attention and makes you work excitedly!
Connect your main branches(分支) to the central picture and connect your second-and-third-level branches to the first and second levels, ect. Why? Because your brain works by connection. If you connect the branches, you will understand and remember a lot more easily.
Why? Because each picture, just like the central picture, is also worth a thousand words. So, if you have 10 pictures in your mind map, they are already worth10, 000 words of notes.
Try to use more colors. Why? Because colors add great energy to your creative thinking, and it's fun.

Beethoven, who is regarded as one of the greatest musicians in the world, was born in 1770. Beethoven's father was a singer. Beethoven showed great talent in music at an early age. When the boy was only four, his father decided to make him a musician. So Beethoven had to play hour after hour on different musical instruments. He learned so fast that he could go around and give concerts when he was only 11. In 1787, Beethoven visited Vienna(维也纳) for the first time, the center of the musical world at that time, and lived there until his death. Beethoven never married. As a teacher, he was not patient, but he was hard-working. By 1801, he had become completely deaf. But he continued his creative work. His finest music was finished after he had lost the ability to enjoy it. Just as he once said that music was his whole world. And he tried to make his world, even a world without any sound, more and more perfect.
